CAPTIUS
A turtle is hungry and lost in its habitat. Today, on its twenty-fifth birthday, it is having the worst day of its life. It doesn’t like freedom. It doesn’t know it.
It’s disgusted by the sand because it’s used to artificial grass, and it doesn’t know what or how to eat now that it no longer has its trough. Only a few hours have passed, and it already feels nostalgic.
It misses everyone: it longs to look at the Durex, the monologues of Tinder, the sprouts of Prozac... it even wants to hear the Instagram arias for the umpteenth time. That would mean it would be in the fish tank, in the magical little bubble where no one can harm it.
A lettuce leaf is visible a little further on the horizon, its first horizon; it has never traveled such a long distance. It’s more hungry than afraid and moves toward it. It knows it will get dark soon, but it becomes aware that it can’t stop. It can’t afford such luxuries.
While continuing its advances, it thinks of the Tag Heuer. It had been a long time since it saw it. It still remembers how its beak dripped the day it was expelled... That was more than one Olympic cycle ago, and it would never see it again. It had all been a lie. It had all been fiction.
The turtle, surrounded by other turtles, feels alone and abandoned. And used. It no longer knows what is real and what isn’t. The reptile feels like a victim, and therefore, it needs culprits.
Big Brother, Operación Triunfo, Survivors, Big Brother VIP, The Farm, Gandía Shore, Big Brother 14, The Voice, Who Wants to Marry My Daughter, Big Brother: Redhead Edition, MasterChef, Who Wants to Circumcise My Jewish Son, Adam and Eve, Big Brother: Senior Edition, Vegan Top Chef, Illiterates-Ignorants and Bizebersa, Big Brother: Only Child Edition…
Just when it seemed like everything had already been invented, here comes Captius, the new reality show directed by Bárbara del Río.
Embryos created to compete. Contestants trained to fear the outside world. No one wants to leave; everyone loves and competes simultaneously. Only one can remain. Who will win and stay in the prized fish tank?
